Rob Carpenter documented four federal cases this week — all from court records — and closed with one sentence: "The thief got the load because somebody's vetting stopped at the paperwork."

Overhaul added the geography: 68% of Southern California Red Zone thefts happen within 50 miles of pickup. Pilferage is now 46% of all incidents.

The information was public. The theft was local. Somebody just had to look.
